Learn More about Nevado de Toluca

Not far from the Toluca Valley, in the State of Mexico, discover the Nevado de Toluca. At 4,645 metres, it is a Mexican volcano and the fourth highest peak in the country. 
It is also called Xinnecatl, a name of Amerindian origin. 
Its last eruption dates back to 1350 BC. 

One of the most exciting activities to do at the volcano site is a trip to the volcano's 2km diameter crater. From here you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and mountains, as well as the lagoons within the crater.
Two lakes are located near the crater: the bright blue Lake of the Moon and the Lake of the Sun. 
Here you can picnic and relax.

Not far away is the city of Toluca, Mexico's fifth largest population. The city is full of history: it was conquered in the 16th century by the Spaniards, and then began the period of evangelisation with the Aztec Empire, which had a culture and religion of its own.

A little further on, you can also discover Valle de Bravo, a municipality where there are many things to discover, starting with the Chapel of Santa Maria Ahuacatlán and its majestic black Christ, whose reconstruction began in 1864.
You can also visit the archaeological museum, which is full of many pieces found in archaeological sites in the state of Mexico. 

If you have enough time, don't hesitate to go to Mexico City, the country's capital, founded by the Aztecs in the 14th century.
